When your sister is a talented chef and your parents are award winning architects you’re already ahead of the game in your wedding planning. Especially if, like Georgia and David, you decide after months of planning for a big wedding that an intimate ceremony is more your style. And the sooner the better! These two sneaky Petes kept their plan secret from all the guests invited to their big June wedding. With the help of their excited parents and siblings they planned a Silverthorne elopement. Nestled in the aspens, the family cabin would be the perfect spot.

Georgia’s architect parents designed the cabin from the ground up. It holds a special place in the hearts of her family; it was also the site of her sister’s wedding earlier this summer. Both the bride and groom’s families (including the furry members) spent the Christmas weekend in the cabin together.

It’s a good thing there was plenty of room for everyone – an unexpected snowstorm shut down the highways! The storm was so severe that it nearly stranded Nate and I on the wrong side of the tunnel! David and Georgia and their WONDERFUL families were more than willing to put us up for the night. Fortunately in the end we got very lucky and were able to make it home to our own sleeping kiddos when I-70 opened up. I was SO touched by their genuine concern for our safety and willingness to include us in their family time! These are some pretty wonderful folks right here. I feel so blessed to have been a part of this precious day and a witness to such love and devotion from everyone present.

With excellent foresight Georgia purchased some adorable and practical Sorel wedges for her wedding shoes. You know you’re a Colorado girl when these are your idea of the perfect wedding footgear.

Her beautiful dress from Little White Dress Shop, one of my favorite Denver wedding dress stores, was an effortlessly elegant and classic lacy piece, an excellent reflection of Georgia herself.

Georgia’s mom, Sarah, her sisters Olivia and Natalie, and her soon to be mother-in-law, Barb, helped Georgia get ready and each contributed a special touch. bride and sister getting ready in a cabin

David and Georgia’s dog Inle plays a huge role in their lives together, so of course she played a big part in the wedding day too. Naturally I took way to many photos of her and her furry compatriots. Sigh. My job is so hard.

David’s brother Jason helped David with his own preparations. Funny how that always seems to take less time and less help than it does for the bride…

Georgia and David’s fire-side ceremony site was made even more beautiful by the falling snow, and blankets were laid out on the simple benches to keep everyone warm. The scene was everything you could ever want in a winter wedding.

Flower girl Harper, David’s niece, was an absolute natural at her role! Her mom, Monica, only had to point her in the right direction and off she went. Inle helped supervise of course.

Each of David and Georgia’s parents came to prepared with a carefully chosen reading to share. Each guest present also held the rings for a moment to impart  a special wish for their future together.

Georgia and David exchanged personal vows and solemnized their own marriage. (One of my favorite things about getting married in Colorado: no officiant required!) True to their character their words were funny, charming, and deeply heartfelt.

If a Colorado elopement is part of your wedding plans, I can’t overstate the beauty of a stand of aspens. Stunning no matter the time of year!

Georgia’s stunning white bouquet and the rest of the wedding florals were created by Bloom by Anuschka and were the perfect compliment to the simple elegance of the day. bride with a white bouquet in the snowthree girls in coats hugging mother and groom hugging at weddingwedding guests lined up for a group photo

After the ceremony the newly united family made their way back to the cabin. The family had already  laid the table with stunning china and a custom initial ornament for each guest. Georgia’s sister Natalie took up her role as bridesmaid/chef assisted by her husband Teddy. Everyone pitched in preparing the menu she and her sisters had created for the day.

From the homemade chips with caviar, to the fresh oysters kept chilled on snow from the deck, to the delicious lemon poppyseed cake courtesy of Mulberries Cake Shop, each bite was better than the last. Georgia and David’s fathers, Rusty and Charles, battled at backgammon while Harper and Monica had a cutthroat game of Connect Four. Woven in and out of all of it were the sounds of laughter and the ever changing soundtrack of Rusty’s extensive record collection. Georgia said over dinner that the day was “unpredictably perfect” and I couldn’t agree more!
